Take it from a Local: Your Ultimate Guide to St. George

Mountain West Small Business Finance has always prioritized building strong personal connections with our lending partners. That’s why we have consistently placed a dedicated Loan Officer in St. George to support the entrepreneurial spirit and foster growth in our Southern Utah market.

Our newest loan officer, Weston Zimmerman, is a native of St. George, unlike our past loan officers who had to relocate to the area.

“St George has changed a lot from when I was born,” Weston explains, “But it has never lost its charm.” He has plenty of nostalgia for the crinkle-cut fries, Glaciers, and grilled cheese of now-defunct Larsens Frostop.

“You have the right combination of being close to nature but not far from the conveniences of modern life. The summer is hot, but you grow to love it, and within an hour, you can escape it.”

Weston is excited about the growth in the area and is eager to help businesses succeed. “St. George is finally getting the attention it deserves.”

Take it from a local—there’s much to celebrate in St. George and its surrounding beauty. Weston has shared some of his favorite spots. Whether you’re a local, planning to visit for the upcoming Spring Break, or looking to explore the best in state and national parks in Southern Utah, Weston has you covered. He has provided his favorite places to check out, with specific recommendations marked as WR for a “Weston recommendation.”

Where to Dine:

WR: try the mulitaTake it from a Local: Your Ultimate Guide to St. George

  • Best Thai: Royal Thai Kitchen

WR: Drunken Noodles https://www.royalthaicuisine.net/

WR: Chana Masala and Garlic Naan

A bit of MWSBF lore: Weston worked as a dishwasher to make money to buy his first car here. And Conventional wisdom says if you can still eat at a restaurant you worked at, that’s a GREAT SIGN!

This is recommended by more than Weston. MWSBF COO Danny Mangum picks up a few chocolate crinkle cookies from Dutchman’s every time he’s in town.

The Telegraph location was the first In-N-Out in Utah. It’s also where Weston worked when he started college.

WR: Chicken Gorgonzola

Another MWSBF DEAL!

WR: Biscuits & gravy and the scones.

Activities & Play:

  • Favorite Bookstore:There’s one local store called Book Bungalow, which always has the best Santa Claus during Christmas time.”
  • Favorite Places to Hike & Camp:There is an area between Veyo and Gunlock called Sand Cove. It’s my favorite area to camp and where I went all growing up. The best hike in that area is the Vortex. https://theramblingraccoon.com/the-vortex-cowboy-pools/ . Besides Sand Cove, Cedar Pocket in the Gorge is a great place to camp and disconnect. You’re surrounded by Joshua Trees as well as interesting cliffs and peaks. It’s the quintessential Mojave Desert setting.”Take it from a Local: Your Ultimate Guide to St. George
  • Best place to catch a sunset:There’s a new road connecting St George Blvd and Green Valley called Tech Ridge Dr. There you get a view of Utah Hill, Red Mountain, a sliver of Snow Canyon, and Pine Valley Mountain. When conditions are right, Pine Valley will glow.”
  • Favorite Golf Course: “I like St George Golf Club the best because the wide fairways are a good confidence boost for as poorly as I play.”
  • Best trail/s to bike: “I’m partial to biking over to Ivins and into Snow Canyon. It’s a great reminder of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful area with a short bike ride.”
  • Favorite National Park in So. Utah:I look forward to going to Lake Powell every summer. Though it hasn’t been the same for the past few years, it’s a great place to enjoy family time.”
