A Peek Into the Culture at MWSBF: Why Employees Stay

Why Employees Stay at MWSBF

At Mountain West Small Business Finance, employee tenure tells a particularly special story. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (as of January 2024), workers stay with their current employer an average of 3.9 years. Across the country, many employees leave their jobs before their fourth year. That makes long-term commitment stand out.  At Mountain West Small Business Finance, the average tenure across all departments is 10 years, more than double the national average, with several teams far exceeding that number. Executive Management averages 24 years, Servicing 15.5 years, and the Closing team nearly 12 years.

These numbers reflect a culture that people want to be part of. And perhaps no one illustrates this better than Kay, the Closing Manager, whose story has become something of a legend at the company.

32 Years of Commitment: Kay’s Story

Kay has been with Mountain West for just over three decades. During this time she’s seen the company evolve, taken on multiple roles, embraced new challenges, and continued learning as the industry changed. Along the way, she’s also navigated different seasons of her personal life while building lasting friendships at work.  Reflecting on her journey, Kay says, “This company has grown with me through every phase of my life. I’ve had opportunities to take on new roles and work with people who have become lifelong friends. It’s more than a workplace. It’s my family.”

Winning Together

For employees, supporting small businesses through Mountain West’s work is personal. Employees at Mountain West are helping local businesses open doors, create jobs, and grow. That kind of impact is fulfilling, and it plays a powerful role in why many choose to build lasting careers here.  As Jason White puts it, “What makes our company unique is our culture of winning. We’re passionate about helping our borrowers win, and just as passionate about celebrating the wins in each other’s lives. That shared mindset creates a team that’s supportive, driven, and truly connected.”
