Roolee: MWSBF Borrower Spotlight

Roolee Then & Now

On the cusp of college graduation, Kylee Champlin founded Roolee in 2013 when she was given the chance to purchase her college employer’s small boutique and make it her own. Roolee is a women’s fashion retailer in Logan, Utah that also sells home décor and kids apparel. It’s style is best described as fashionably hip with a hint of vintage twist.

With and SBA 504 loan, Roolee purchased a condo adjacent to their current retail space, making a larger photo loft and relocated their office space to accommodate the company’s growth. The expansion also allowed the company to open their children’s shop and clothing line “Roolee Kids.” The additional office space allowed for the expansion of Roolee’s buying and design teams. In fact, Roolee has added a mixture of more than 50 full and part-time employees since the expansion. As of April 2019, Roolee had more than 100 employees.

Worth Mentioning

The name Roolee comes from Champlin’s childhood nickname.

Kylee and her husband Chad participated in the invitation only “Spring at the Silos” vendor fair at Magnolia Market (made famous by Chip and Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper).

In 2017, Kylee had the distinguished honor of being named one of the “20 in their 20s” to watch by Utah Business Magazine.

Roolee’s 2018 “Purchase with a Purpose” event raised $63k in a single day for Operation Underground Railroad, an organization dedicated to preventing human trafficking.

What Kylee Has to Say About It

“I have always been a competitive person. There is something inside of me that has always required me to do the very best that I can. There is no other option for me.”

“I believe my gender is an asset, in that I am able to relate to my customer base.”

“Our business is built around family. We truly hope you feel like family when you shop with us.”

“Be yourself. Work hard and go for it. Focus on what you can control and don’t get distracted by comparing yourself to others.”
